When people dismiss scientific theories by saying “oh it’s just a theory.” you are thinking the layman’s definition of a theory, which is in reality just a hypothesis. Scientific theories, are not simply “hey, I have thought up this wonderful idea.” in the formal sense, scientific theories have been thoroughly tested.
