Do I have smart carpenter ants?

I have been having trouble with carpenter ants…not in huge numbers, but between 4 and 10 a day. At first I was just killing them; then I went out and bought traps. A couple of years ago I had wonderful results with borax-based ant traps, but I could not find them this time, so bought another type. They didn’t seem to be working, so I went to another store and did find the ones I wanted and replaced the others with these. The problem is, the ants won’t go near either type. They are placed on the floor against the wall in two rooms, and any time an ant gets near one, he turns around and runs like hell! Are my ants geniuses?

How does extermination kill Carpenter Ants?

We have a Carpenter Ant problem in our home. Last year we didn’t pay it much attention except for setting out the usual ant traps (which we now know don’t work). But after Christmas they started appearing again – odd, since this is Canada and it’s cold and snowy.
Today the Pest Control Specialists came in. I had a few ants I had saved so they could see what type and they’re definitely Carpenter. So the guys sprayed something all around our baseboards. They said we’ll start seeing more soon as they abandon the nests, but within a few weeks they should be gone (if not, they’ll spray again). We live right behind a creek with alot of dead wood.
I’ve been reading up on the little suckers and can’t understand how the spray kills them. Most sites talk about drilling holes in the walls, which wasn’t done.
I’m just really curious about what happens now, and how the colonies die.
If anyone knows the answer, greatly appreciated.

P.S. I live in Ontario, Canada – just mentioning since I know pesticide laws change from place to place.

Carpenter ants coming through air ducts?

I’ve been fighting these carpenter ants for about 3 weeks now. Ever since i had a guy put in insulation in my attic they’ve been coming through my air vents constantly.

For some reason they only go in a certain bedroom from the vent and sometimes the bathrooms.. but no other places besides them. I know for sure they’re coming from the air ducts because i saw two literally fall out of the vent while i was sealing the edges of the vent cover. And im not exactly sure why they’re mostly in the one bedroom, but i do know they’re coming from the attic.

So how do i go about dealing with this? go in the attic and look for holes in the air ducts? Or do i just spray the heck out of it?

Carpenter Ants in home?

Ugh! This has been a horrible bug summer for us!

I’ve killed say, 7 winged carpenter ants total, and 2 large ones without wings. I know where they are (kitchen sink wall), but how can I get rid of them?

I thought about spraying their entry way into the kitchen, but it’s behind a loose light fixture and there’s probably live wires behind it. We don’t have the money to tear out the wall or anything.

Bait them and hope it works? We used duct-tape to seal off all sides of the light, and I’ve only seen 2 winged ones since then, killed one and the other disappeared. We have no other bugs in the house.

Any suggestions? I’m thinking sealing the area off will just make them destroy the wall studs faster, but I don’t know what to do…

I think it's carpenter ants, but could it be termites?

I’m almost positive that it is carpenter ants because we have kind of been having ant infestations for years and we see them around even though we spray. But there are piles of would dust in this one spot in our basement and in certain places on the outside of our house. Is this a common thing for carpenter ants to do? Are termites the same way? Is there much of a difference between the two?
Will carpenter ants do as much damage as termites do if this doesn’t get taken care of?
Please answer as many questions as you can.

How come there are dead termites and black carpenter ants in my house?

I was going to renovate my house but on close inspection saw that there was some timber coming off the corner of the roof. I touched the area and it came off! I saw a lot os black carpenter ants and dead termites. Why are there no living termites and only black carpenter ants? Are there also termites?
