Get Rid of Carpenter Ants

Does anyone know of any common household product or magic combination of common household ingredients that might kill fire ants? I have them in the area I just tilled for a small garden but I don’t want to use any harsh chemicals in the dirt where I’m about to put vegetable plants that I will hopefully eat from soon.

Any ideas?

The sprinkler heads are clean & aren’t filled with dirt . I can blow through them but water doesn’t come through. Do Fire ants get down deep into & stop up the pipes? I am partially handicapped and can’t do much digging. Is there another way to solve the problem and get the sprinklers working again?
