Search And Destroy To Get Rid Of Carpenter Ants

In order to get rid of carpenter ants, it is necessary to seek out and destroy the nests. Recent studies have shown that carpenter ants follow distinct scent trails between the satellite colonies and the parent nest. Carpenter ants also rely on scent trails to recruit their nestmates to food. With patience and a little effort, homeowners can use this trailing behavior displayed by carpenter ants to locate and eliminate the nests.

So, here is what you need to do – feed the ants small dabs of diluted honey placed onto the back (nonsticky side) of pieces of masking tape. The best time to do this is late at night since this is when carpenter ants are most active. After the ants have fed on the honey, follow them on their journey back to their nest. Eventually the ants will disappear behind a baseboard, cabinet, or into some other concealed location such as the hollow space (void) within a wall, door casing, or porch column.

This will help you locate where the ants are coming into the rest of your house.

However, the problem could be the result of a nest located outside the house.  In this case,  put small amounts of honey mixed in water into bottle caps (or similar small containers) and place them along the foundation.  Then try and follow the ants as they move away from the baits and back to their nest. In most situations the ant nest is located nearby, although it could be as much as 300 feet away from where you find foraging ants. The main purpose of this baiting is simply to see where the ant trail leads. If the ant trails move away from the house, you can use a pesticide control method for outdoor infestations. If the ants appear to be nesting indoors, the next step is to carefully inspect for likely nesting sites. Concentrate first on those areas around your home that are most vulnerable to moisture problems.  These places need to be eliminated if you are going to get rid of these pests.

Carpenter Ants

I discovered things about the seasonal habits of carpenter ants. North facing nests stay dormant all winter. South ones have a creepy crawling movement to them year round. I read about how the Queens drop their wings when they’re ready to mate.

Carpenter Ants Control

After finishing all the inspection and you are certain that you have located all the carpenter ants nests, then, you are ready to move on to the next stage, that is, to get rid or kill the carpenter ants. Get rid of carpenter ants.

Habits and Traits of Carpenter Ants

Carpenter ants recycle our forests by excavating nests in dead or decaying trees. Occasionally, they establish colonies within the structural lumber of people’s homes, and then they become pests.
