Now that its October, and its been really cold in Iowa, we have to turn on our heat. Since we did this, we have noticed a ton of carpenter ants everywhere. I have a rabbit so I don’t want to get an exterminator over here that could possibly hurt my rabbit when he sprays or does whatever. I will do something with my rabbit if that is what is necessary but I feel like I should try to take less drastic measures first. So if I bought those little ant trap/killer things and placed them around areas where we think the ants are coming from (the vents) would that work to kill them? And do they bite?
We were our of our house for several months due to damage from a tornado. When we got back, we noticed that we had what we think were carpenter ants. I admit that my knowledge of fauna is limited to really small animals, small animals, bigger animals, and even bigger animals. All that said, we believe that we had carpenter ants, and we saw them, mostly in the morning in the kitchen, but to some extent at all times of the day.
We also, at the same time, had an influx of fire ants, and used Amdro all through the yard to kill them. At about the same time, we noticed that the carpenter ants had also disappeared.
My question is whether the Amdro likely killed the carpenter ants also, or have they just gone dormant because we are in the winter months. We live in the South, so the nights are still around 40-60 degrees, and the days range from 70-90 degrees. In other words, do we still need an exterminator, or is the problem solved. We no longer see ants in the house.
Can you explain why the ants went from 10 or so each morning found in and around the kitchen to one or so a week, if even that?
Does it mean that they are dormant for winter—our mean temp is still well above 60—or what?
In this video I share with you how you can get rid of ant infestations permanently (nest and all) using ant baits. You can successful rid your home of these damaging and invasive insects without using harmful spray pesticides and a lot less expensively than using an exterminator. This has worked for me and I know it can work for you. So whether you have the tiny ones or the big black carpenter ants, including those with wings, these will work for you if you follow my recommendation for usage. Please remember to subscribe because I have so much more to come; something helpful and of interest to everyone. I recently had a new roof put on my two story home. The contractor cut off branches that were close to the roof. There was no water damage to the roof. After they completed I have found carpenter ants in my second floor bedroom. They are dying or dead. Do I need an exterminator or are these just leftover from the branches that touched my roof?
recently, there has been some construction behind my house and i have seen several carpenter ants in my home. Now they are coming out from under my dishwasher. I don’t know if i should spray a pesticide because i put my dishes in there! What can i do until i get an exterminator!?!? They are all over!
I came back home from college and it seems that carpenter ants have occupied my room while I was gone. Sometimes I find random ones dead. I have no idea why they’re here or why I’m finding some dead ones. Is there a DIY solution to this or should I just call an exterminator?

It provides very little shade , but it does add a little something to the yard and Id like to keep it if I can. Short of felling the tree, what can I do to get rid of the ants. They will kill the tree eventually and then move on to greener pastures namly my house which is only 20 ft away. I had to get gas this week so an exterminator is out of the question.
