What's the best way to prevent termites from coming back?

The house we bought had termites and even though we had it treated I suspect they’ll be back.

If you have landscaping, or don’t mind adding some, use ceader chips rather than "pine straw" cotton seed hulls, or normal bark mulch. Ceader will keep termites and several other insects away. Redwood is good in that termites won’t eat it, however, unless you replace the base frame of your home… kind of out of luck there, plus it’s a soft wood, so not that great for structure. They do make redwood siding still, although not as durable as other materials. The key to termites is making sure they’re dead, and as soon as you see "swarmers" exterminate (before they can get established).

Let loose some centipedes in your attic or crawlspace.

Treat it every sping season and this will help to keep them away. It also prevents other unwanted pest like ants and earwigs, box elder bugs and the like.
